E-Shram
E-Shram is a digital platform launched by the Government of India to provide a comprehensive database of unorganized workers in the country. The platform aims to streamline the process of identifying and providing welfare schemes and social security benefits to unorganized workers such as construction workers, street vendors, domestic workers, and other such informal sector workers.
E-Shram provides a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) to every registered worker, which serves as a digital identity card. The UAN is linked to the worker’s Aadhaar card and other personal details, such as name, age, and address. The platform also captures the worker’s skillset and employment details.
The platform aims to address the challenges faced by unorganized workers such as lack of job security, low wages, and inadequate social security benefits. With the help of E-Shram, workers can access a range of benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, accident insurance, and pension schemes.
The E-Shram platform also benefits employers by providing a streamlined process for registration and identification of workers. The platform helps employers to identify workers with specific skill sets and hire them for their projects.
The E-Shram platform is a game-changer for the informal sector, which accounts for a significant portion of the country’s workforce. By providing a digital identity and access to social security benefits, the platform aims to improve the livelihoods of millions of unorganized workers in the country.
